– ABOUT THE AUTHOR –

Michael Tamsuriyamit is a New York-based multimedia journalist and filmmaker. He is currently a digital content producer for WABC-TV, more commonly known as Channel 7 Eyewitness News.

At WABC-TV, Michael works with the Eyewitness News team to promote daily news stories across all platforms. He plays a crucial role in drafting newsworthy online stories for ABC7NY’s website and creating short-form content for its social media pages. In his spare time, Michael pitches, produces and edits community-driven video stories for ABC’s feature profile series, Localish.

Before Eyewitness News, Michael served as a contributing producer for CUNY TV’s Asian American Life, an Emmy award-winning news magazine show focusing on topical issues and stories about
Asian Americans. Here he made his television debut interviewing notable Asian American trailblazers, including profiling the
host of Delish’s “Budget Eats” YouTube series and a young Korean-American Taekwondo athlete and influencer. Under the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), Michael took part in the 2022 Voices Fellowship, where he had the opportunity to solo produce a short documentary about Little Manila, a thriving Filipino American community in Queens, New York.

Michael’s stories have also been featured in news outlets including BuzzFeed News, where he penned a timely story about Generation Z’s digital mobilization and activism. In light of the 2021 Atlanta spa shootings, he interviewed three young Asian Americans utilizing social media to reflect and respond to the nationwide surge in anti-Asian attacks.

Inside the classroom, Michael was a co-producer, correspondent and anchor for Hunter News Now, his college’s biweekly TV news show. He is currently the managing editor for The Envoy, his college’s online student newspaper, where he first covered breaking news about the City University of New York’s post-pandemic reopening plans as the publication's former campus news reporter.

As a multimedia storyteller, Michael explores the pivotal intersections between community, culture and people’s passions. Michael is on a mission to document the stories that matter to everyday New Yorkers. What ultimately inspires this curiosity, is his journalism motto:

“Because what matters is what's worth talking about.
