MEDPL201: Timed Writing Exercises #3 (Laura Lynn Hardy)
A 19-year-old yoga instructor biked 20 miles through the snow last Friday to pull off a Christmas miracle. The miracle: returning an envelope containing $300,000 in cash and checks to its rightful owner.
Laura Lynn Hardy was on her way home from lunch on Christmas Eve when she spotted a thick manila envelope on the sidewalk near Lincoln Federal Savings. In a hurry, Hardy stopped to put it in her bag and continued cycling to her residence in Locust Valley.
When Hardy opened the envelope at home, she discovered a total of $300,000 in cash and checks made out to Fenster Ford, the area’s largest car dealer. She immediately notified the bank, hopped on her bike and pedaled back to Lincoln.
Unfazed by the 10-mile journey and snowstorm, Hardy arrived at the bank, where Xavier Mooney, president of Lincoln Federal Savings, and Fred Fenster, whom the checks were addressed to, greeted her. The two thanked Hardy, shook her hand and posed for photos together. “She’s a great little girl, the kind of girl we in Lincoln should be proud of,” said Fenster when contacted for comment.
Although Hardy rode home empty-handed, she said knowing that she did a good deed just in time for the holidays was a reward in itself.
“It’s enough just to do the right thing,” Hardy said.
